Hey everyone I have a 1991 4-cyl standard cab Toyota Pickup and I need some help. The wiring harness from the computer back to the fuel pump is shot. I found a wiring harness but it is for a 3.0L extra cab. Both are 5 spd and 4x4. If anyone can shed some light on whether or not the wiring harness is the same, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

It's probably the same, you may want to count the number of pins, on the new one, and on your computer.

It goes from computer to under the passenger seat, and has another connection there. Do you have a connection about 4 feet from the computer plug, or do you have only the part from under the seat to the back. Near the connnection, there will be a rubber ''gasket'' to fill the hole where it comes into the cab.

I've had a connection go bad at the pump itself. On the outside of the pump. All you'd have to do in that case would be to put in a new connector there.

Are you doing you're own work, or is it a machanic telling you you have to replace the harness?

Yeah I'm doing my own work. It was shorting out and after getting in there and looking the previous owner wasn't very mechanically inclined(I'm not saying I am) and butchered the wires with electrical tape and cheap connectors. Needless to say it's a fire hazard in it's present state, and I prefer to just replace the whole harness. I found where it comes from the computer to the plug under the seat/carpet and goes through the floor and back to the pump from there. I was going to replace it from the seat back. Also, is the fuel pump supposed to have power while the ignition is on? It seems I was reading somewhere that it only gets power while cranking or running. Thanks for the quick reply and help. Also, before it finally died, I would be driving down the road and occasionally it would cut out and die, then pick back up and start running again just fine. Happened 4-5 times before it finally died for good. It was acting just like it ran out of gas. No lights or anything came on. So my first thought after looking around and finding that wiring job(or lack thereof) was that it was a short to the pump. Also, I can't hear the pump running when I turn the ignition on, which is why I asked about that. Thanks again for the help!

Don't know but maybe this will help. It's for a 1992 so not positive it's the same. Someone on here suggested it was good to have this manual, and I agreed, so recently bought a copy off of ebay to go along with my factory manuals.

You'll be the first to make use of it, if it helps. If you need more info then purchase a copy off of ebay, just search for 1991 toyota truck electrical manual. It was a pain in the butt to scan and damaged the binding trying to keep it flat, so please don't ask for more scans because I will say NO.

Good luck!
