Ok, so I have a 91 celica gt with the 5sfe and s53 manual gearbox. This engine seems to be loopy. Here it goes....start off in 1st leaving my house, drive up the road with my foot on the gas at the same point, I dont press it harder, the car accelerates normal till about 3800-4G then it like takes right off for no apparant reason. foot didnt move, I dont have boost and I know its not a honda vtech.....what the hell is it. I know i need both lower motor mounts as they have softened up, but they're not let go. Car has 207,000 kms on it and I drive it like I stole it, but with that said it always gets Mobil 1 10W30 every 3000k with toyota filters and I have GM Synchromesh Friction Modified gear oil in it, so I do take care of it, I just love to drive it.

Opinons ? Ideas ? help ? Suggestions ?

so you're saying it launches at about 4K? Well, on my celica it does the same thing. I just thought the torque curve was optomized for 4K-6K.... It's kinda cool to feel it kick in.. How hard does it kick in? Is it like a big turbo? It might be your clutch slipping and then catching, that also happens to me sometimes, but the car just feels gutless when it's slipping..

It could be the clutch, but I did "the clutch test" where you point your car up a steep incline and put it in 4th and attempt to go as if you were in first, she stalled alsmot immediatly, if it were slipping, you think it'd slip trying, it didnt budge. One thing I do know about my clutch is that the throw out bearing is toast.
