1991 standard cab pickup, 5-speed, 22re engine, 349,000 miles. The truck has episodes of rough running/missing that can be severe. The engine may quit without warning. When it does, I turn the key off, then on. It immediately restarts and I continue driving. Trouble code 14 was first noticed in 2008 and always returns when cleared out. It has been in three shops, five times with no help. Work done to date: Plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor (2000, 2008), new oxygen sensor (code 21, 2008), new fuel filter (2008), new fuel pump (2009), new ignitor (2009), new coil (2009), rebuilt distributor (2009), new coolant temperature sensor (2009), new vacuum modulator (2010), replace vacuum tubing (2010, new battery cables (2010). Cleaned throttle body (2009), cleaned EGR (2010), removed and tested TVV (ok per fsm). Got two used ECU's, truck runs same with any one of three installed. Truck always starts ok. Problem can be intermittent. Drove to work this morning (90 miles) with occasional minor missing. Last Friday it shut down 32 times in first 30 miles with severe missing all the way.

Check all grounds take them apart and clean not just look at them. You have a problem that is tough to diagnose. I would go through the the entire engine wire harness especially check at all wire plugs. these old trucks like to break wires near the weatherpak plugs

22re code 14

I think I got it fixed and it had nothing to do with code 14. Two weeks ago, a new symptom cropped up - a pulsing idle. (fast, slow, fast, slow. . . ) Disconnected the tps (because it was in front) and idle smoothed right out. Testing tps in place almost impossible so removed throttle body, cleaned, and tested tps as per FSM. Failed tests 2 and 3. Ordered new one and replaced last week. Problem gone. No missing, no dying. (knock on wood, hope, hope). So what did tps have to do with code 14 (IGf signal problem)? Spent (wasted?) mucho $$$ chasing that code 14.
