When starting the car and turning on the a/c, it works fine. As
I drive, after a few miles it will get a flashing a/c light. Blows hot then. will stay that way until restarted. Any suggestions?

The a/c light can flash ? I don't know. Is a regular flash or intermittent flash ?

sounds like it might be something with the high/low pressure switch ... how cold is it you might be low on gas or the dryer might be bad ... also the off chance the expansion vlave might be a little cloged

it could be a number of things:
belt worn and is slipping
freeon is low
ac compressor is going bad
oil leak affecting the compressor belt

find the pressure switch and disconnect it the bridge it with a paper clip and the blinking should stop if it cools then your freeon is low and/or leaking

The expansion valve is a known issue with Gen 3s. Mine went out about two years ago. I know it requires the freon to be removed, so you'll probably need to take it in to a shop.
