92 Engine Noise?

920 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  amerikim
Hey people...

My lil bro's camry makes a wierd sound during low revs.
It's coming from the passenger side ... somewhere around the alternator. That belt next to it ... what is that called? I think that's the noise... after 2.5 k .. the engine sound great...

what do you guys think... kinda a low sounding roar .... i thought it was the intake at first ... but with the hood popped up ... it's on the other side...

on the off side ... how much does it cost to fix the pressurized pipe that holds the hood up .... it just falls straight down ...

thanks in advance for any input... sorry i can't describe the sound any better...

Theres 3 belts. 2 accessory belts and a timing belt.

You can't see the timing belt. Its behind a cover.

One of the accessory belts go around the crank pulley, alternator, and a/c compressor (if you have a/c). The other accessory belt grounds around the crank pulley and power steering pump.

Not sure what they cost.

Goto a autoparts store and ask them for hood struts.

dealer sell around $50 or $60 each
ebay sell generic for around $40 a pair shipped
Describe noise, whining is belt, flicking sound is belt failing, grinding is alternator or water pump, farting sound is rude passenger..etc...etc
