hi, i have a 93 tercel and i see there is some play in the shifter and the gears do not shift smoothly.. they are kind of rough to shift (a bit) and when i try to engage reverse, sometimes it wont so i have to move it to 3rd and then put it in reverse again, then it will engage

someone told me it may be my shifter bushings.. but truth is i have no idea
what you people think? some advice would be good

Yeah, that sounds like a good possibility. If you take the center plastics off and expose the shifter there are 2 pivot balls. Check to see if there is excess room between the ball and the cable. Try shifting in place and just look and see what's happening.

so its the shifter bushings in the driver place, not those connecting under the hood?
