a few days ago i drove the 5 miles to a friends house and when i got there i had steam blowing everywhere, temp gauge pegged. the cooling system seemed fine, always running nice n cool. my motors not seized, it turns over fine, but hasnt started since. My CEL is on, but did not flash a trouble code when I jumped the Te1 & e1. It just flashes, with no pauses. what does this mean?? Ive checked every connection, the dist. the wires, everything!!!its my only transportation and ive only had it three weeks.....been stuck for days...help!:headbang:

I'm not sure why the CE light is on and you're getting no codes.

As for the no-start & overheating problems, check the timing belt. It drives the water pump and the cams, so if it's broken, it would cause both problems. To check it, you can remove a few of its cover fasteners and take a peek; see if it's moving when the engine's cranking. Or remove the distributor cap and see if the rotor spins while cranking.

i just checked the timing belt n rotor, both are turning fine...i just unplugged and checked a couple connections and now the cel is flashing 2, 4. i checked the afm and the connections good. I just pulled three plugs and they are sopping wet, then i noticed if i manually opened the flap in the afm i could hear the injectors spraying( i think thats what it was) could the afm be malfunctioning and flooding the cylinders? Ive got plenty of spark, compression, and fuel.....

Error code 24 = Intake air temperature circuit.

With that error, the ECU is supposed to operate as though the air is at 20°C (68°F). So I don't think that's the problem. If the pot on the AFM was messed up, it ought to throw a 31 or 32 error code. I'm stumped at the moment, but I'll give it some thought.

Sounds like another head gasket. Time for a compression test!

Yeah, I thought that too, until he said...

Bdub, I saw your post, and you're absolutely right! (One of my super-secret mod powers is that I can still read posts deleted by members.) Dunno what I was thinkin'... if the timing belt broke it wouldn't stay running long enough to overheat, would it?!?... Dah!! If you guys (or gals) ever catch me sayin' stoopid stuff like that again, call me on it!

Just realized I didn't answer this question. Not directly anyways. Steady flashing means there are no error codes stored.

I'm still stumped.

No-start after an overheating.
Flooding itself.
Somewhat flaky check engine light behavior.
Has compression, spark, and fuel (too much, but it is getting fuel).

Weird.

I'm thinking that maybe the first issue that should be figured out is why the car overheated and blew steam, and pegged the temp. gauge? Sounds like this happened suddenly, or at least in a very short time period. (5 miles?) I wonder if something like a serious water pump failure or coolant system blockage, might produce this type very quick over heating, and set off any number of random failure codes, that might not be very helpful in diagnosing the source of the problem.

Such a failure (like a water pump seize), might cause a timing belt to skip a couple notchs, but still leave it in tact and working the other stuff. If the car was off a few notches on the timing belt, it would still turn over and do fuel, spark, and some compression, but it would be very reluctant to start and run.

Maybe some fuel for thought?....

still not runnin

well, thank you all for your input, i have, since communicating with you guys, stumped just bout all the mechanics i know!! so.... i guess im going to do as suggested and look for the "why" if i get it running, it will overheat! so im going to check out the water pump today...one thing, tho, i noticed something worrisome, from cranking it so much, there seems to be a little bit of gas in my oil.....
