'94 Coupe may need shocks

It only has 116,000km on it and it's feeling soft. How long do shocks last? We've had this car since 1997 with only 37,000km on it and I can't see shocks being replaced before we got it and we haven't replaced them yet.

If it does need shocks, how long do the springs last? I guess I'm asking that if the shocks need replacing how much would it cost to replace the springs. If it needs new springs and shocks, I'd like to drop it down 1.5 or 2" so it doesn't look like a 4X4 any more.

We decided to keep it, which means dropping a couple of thousand bux into it, and if that's the case, I'd like to at least get it a cool profile (and stiffer cornering).
