I have a 95 Corola with 1.6 AFE that is tired. 289,000 miles. Looked at cost of rebuild vs A remanufactured engine. Is there any difference in the long block 4 AFE that says it goes to a 96-97 vs a 95 4 AFE long block?

Mechanically they're pretty much the same, but I believe there are a few differences with sensors and whatnot being that the 95 is OBD I and the 96-97 is ODB II.

I wondered about sensors. By looking at the long block there isn't anything on it other than the block, head, timing gears, and belt. Everything else is comes from the old motor. Just wanting to know if there is possibly anything different in the longblock that would not let them be interchangeable.

I found a 97 engine, just removed from a car to be rebuilt, and the only thing that is different is the crank sensor mounting is there on the 97. 95 doesn't use it. So, if anyone is interested, the 96-97 can be used on the 95, and some earlier models.
