97 Corolla dash lights out

5799 Views 16 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  toyotatwo
I have no lights below the radio in the central part of my dash - no fan light, no climate control light, no PRNDL light at the shifter. The "AC on" light DOES work. Is there a single point for all of these to fail, like a plug or a fuse? Or could they all be burnt out?

I just bought the car and discovered they don't work. The other dash lights all seem to be ok. Any help would be appreciated.

Fuse. Check your fusebox, you probably blew a fuse somewhere.
my PRND2L light at the shifter is out too. is this a fuse or a bulb?
that's a bulb actually. it's not hard to replace but it takes a while sometimes trying to get the box appart and finding it.
i have no light eather dast climate neather do i have the stop light all the exterior lights are out as well?

how do i fix it where what how? :wtf:
Well, couldn't find a bad fuse in the firewall or under the hood, and I agree that it's unlikely that all those lights would go bad. Does anyone know if there's a fuse somewhere else that could be involved, or a plug that could be loose, like maybe behind the radio?

I appreciate the input - thanks!
97 models are known for their bad dash lights..not bright enough and burning out quickly. I heard its a bitch to replace them..:bullshit2
well i was talkin about a 88 sr5 but o well gues il have to do something bout it.

would any of you know about an 88 i tryed to conect a fan by the front side marker wre thats where i got my power from when i turned it on it all just went out.?

I heard that, too, and was hoping to avoid it, but I guess yanking out the dash and console will probably be the next step.

You probably fried a wire somewhere, if not.. check ALL the fuses as is not always one fuse for everything. Also check relays and other stuff like that.

I am having the same problem. However last night when i was installing fog lights i removed the vent panel on the driver's side and noticed a loose/disconnected wire behind the dimmer switch. I am guessing that's what's causing mine to go out. I didn't bother looking into it much. I think i remember it was a green wire. I will probably take another look at it over the weekend.
Well I have the same problem here, but I know it was my fault. When I was installing my reverse glow gauges I must have shorted out my lights when I was trying to find a power source for the gauges. I also got the good ol airbag light as a reminder of my tinkering. I'm too lazy to look up how to get rid of it.

But on the plus side my gauges look great!!!
i have a similar problem with my 97 4a-fe but thats from when i installed an aftermarket head unit. now they pop on when the feel like it but the centers about to be painted so no matter to me, good luck getting yours fixed though
airbags lights most likely ur airbag's computer is f-cked... deck i dunno whats wrong w/ ur car cuz i had no problem in 95 rolla and i got aftermarket deck and reverse glo guage...
my gauges went out after i installed an aftermarked cd player. what happened.
Update - I started to take the center dash and console out and see if replacing bulbs would take care of it, but, man - this looks like a major operation! I've decided to live with darkness on the shifter and lower dash for a while. It's just not worth that much effort to fix a couple lights.
I have 97 Corolla DX

I also have guage light problem. Looks like the bulb burned out one by one. Now totally dark. I couldn't figure out, how to open the guage cluster and replace the bulb.

My second problem is about Drive side parking light which also burned out. Is there a way to just change the bulb. If so does any can give me some idea.

Thanks in advance
