Can anyone give me info. on how to change a headlight bulb on a 97 Tercel? Do I need to unscrew the headlight fixture or can the buld be changed by leaving it in? It looks like it would be very tight by leaving it in. thanks!

Open the hood, twist the plastic locking ring to unlock, pull the bulb out. Put new bulb in twist locking ring to lock. Repeat on other side , close hood and voila! No need to remove headlight assy. maybe a little tight but certainly doable!

Thanks! Do you also need to slip off that rubber ring that is around the fixture?
Yes. And don't touch the glass part of the bulb with your bare fingers. If you do, wipe it off with a cotton rag or paper towel. The oils in your skin will cause the bulb to get hot spots where you touch it and shorten the bulb life.

There is no plastic locking ring...it's a metal spring clip that hinges on one side and is held in a slot on the other. Unplug the power cable and remove the rubber dust boot. Push the un-hinged end of the spring clip out of the retaining slot and swing the clip out of the way. The lamp will now be loose--pull it straight backward and out.
