Having trouble with an inaccurate speedometer in a 1997 Tercel with 75k miles. The fast you go the further it is off, so a reading of 90 mph on the speedometer is is really around 65 mph. Under 30 mph it seems to read the correct speed. Any ideas what is wrong with it?

Could be the speedometer drive gear in the transmission has worn or damaged teeth, they catch at slow speeds but basically start to skip as you spins up.

Thanks. You know where I can find a diagram of how to replace it? Having trouble finding anything on it. Just inherited car, dont know anything about it...

I had one that would do wierd noses it was comical either the speedo or tachometer I dont remember
