Please those of you in the know, i have a question that I am finding mixed opinions about. I currently have a 2004 Prerunner and desire to upgrade to a 4x4. I am interested in a 1999 4x4 reg cab with 51,000 miles, very low mileage i know, and looks to be in darn good shape. But blue book is only $9,000 ish and the asking price is $13,900, i am confident i could get them down to 13K at the most expensive, but is this still too high an asking price?

The asking price on the 4X4 you want seems way too steep for a '99. There's no way I would even consider buying a '99 for that price (even if it had low miles.) Besides, you have an '04 why would you want to get rid of it for a '99? I know you want a 4x4 but that's a big step down.At any rate, the asking price is way too high, don't do it.

I agree, too steep. Especially since it is a reg cab. That is an undesireable even for a toy. Keep looking, be patient.
Good luck,
Tony

thanks for the advice guys, even though it is in fantastic shape, i would think 11,000 to 11,900 would be the max asking price for a 99'. i will continune to bide my time and see if any other 4x4's spring up between now and mid march.

I think you're in the ballpark for a 99 4x4 with 50K miles at around $9-10K. I paid about $9000 for a 98 extended cab 4x4 with 80K miles last summer at a dealer. I think asking price was about $10.5K. Actually, I traded in an old Honda Civic and paid $8K difference. I passed up a similar truck that sold for, I think, $8500, then had to look for awhile to find another one. They sell quick in this area.

for what its worth, i paid 10K even for my 99 extra cab, trd with the 3.4 last december in oregon, where these trucks tend to be a little more expensive due to demand.

mine had 105k on the odometer.
i would try to get it for about 9k... i dont necessarily think that stepping from an 04 to a 99 is a downstep, since you are changing out for the 4x4 package.

what engine, transmission, etc does it have? any other extras?

*edit* for what its worth, noticing that you are in oregon too, i got it at the ron tonkin dealership in portland

Obviously this little truck must be a V6. If not then that dealer is out of his mind. I paid $9300 for my 97 reg cab 4x4 with the 2.7l with 97000 miles a couple months ago.I bought privately. At the time I really needed a truck and I feel I paid about $500 too much for the truck. The guy I bought it from wouldn't budge on price. Since then I have seen one 97 reg cab 4x4 in my local paper for 8300 since I bought it. But I live up in Canada remember. I realize you Americans get a way better deal on your vehicles.

It is a 4 cyl manual tranny, i want the manual and i think that thats all the reg cab 4x4 came with. It has a new cap, i think the tires are decent but not 100% sure. I have heard that Vancouver Toyota is the best in the Portland areas, but i dont know. I really would use the 4x4 and I am willing to spend a little more for something newer, but i want to keep it around 10 to 13K if I can. I also really like the boday style and want something in the 99-2004 range, and it has the sr5 package, bench seats are no good as i plan to use for long trips and my driving partner is a full foot shorter than I.

im assuming its the 2.7L 4cyl.

in that case, they are asking a ridiculous amount for that truck.

if you are looking to spend between 10 and 13k, look at a newer truck, or talk to this dealership and tell them they are out of their damn minds on that price.

I have a 99 xcab 4x4 v6 5 spd that I bought for $14k and 36k on odo. There is no way that I would pay that for a reg cab. I would think that you should be able to get that one for around 8500 - 9500 considering the mileage.
