You mentioned the override button, so you know the procedure shown in the owner's manual to deal with the problem.

STOP LIGHT SWITCH UNDER DASH MAY NEED ADJUSTING OR IS DEFECTIVE.
i know this is over 12 years old but I found my issue. There is a switch underneath the shifter that controls the lock. When you press the override you’ll see two plastic arms trying to push a switch near and under the cable. That switch was stuck, I sprayed it with wd40, pressed it a bunch, now is working fine.Okay so as stated I have a 1999 Avalon with an automatic transmission. The selector is stuck in the park position. I have simply tried to depress the brake and shift, use the shift lock override button without and with the parking brake on. Is there any solution to even get the car moving to get it to a dealer or shop? Or even a quick fix check to see what the problem could be?
