I live in Hawaii and therefore am limited to available parts locally such as Junkyards etc..

I have done some researching, but can't find out what kind of diff my fathers truck has in it.

Is there a easy way to find out? Like deciphering stickers and such??

I forgot to check door jams when I was looking at his truck. He had complained about a clunking noise in the rear somewhere.. I crawled under there and !

There is an axle code near the bottom of the VIN plate.
A letter and 3 numbers, G252 for example.

2nd thought, on a 99 it could be the newer format, like B04A as an example.

Bottom right
A/TM A05A/W59

A is for Axle code - in your case A05A
TM is for Transmission code - in your case a W59 5 Spd
I don't have my decoder ring handy to decode the axle info.
