Does the driver side CV axle spin freely while both wheels are on the ground? Or only when the front wheels are up in the air?

When you lift the front end and spin one wheel forward, does the other side wheel spin backwards? Or hold still? Normal behavior would be the opposite wheel spinning backwars.

Is it a 3 speed auto? Those are famous for the diff/spider gears exploding. They have seperate fluid for the differential, but nobody changes it because the 4 speed doesn't have seperate fluid for the diff.

Yup that's it. Thanks. Is it easier to change tranny or replace the gears? And thanks!
Probably easier to just get a used transmission. You don't really know the extent of the damage, there's a good chance that there's more damage than just the differential. If you're really brave, you can pull the automatic transmission and put a manual one in with very little modification.

Will a 4 speed overdrive transmission fit in the 99. 3 speed car? Please and thank you.
Yep, but it's a bit bigger of a job than a 5 speed. To put a 4 speed auto in your car, you'll need a torque converter, ECM and wiring harness from a 4 speed car. Not too difficult, since you have to pull the engine out to get to the transmission out anyway.

Not necessarily. You just need a support bar to hang the engine on. It is easier to separate an auto trans from the engine that a manual.

I don't know off my head if a 3spd torque converter is the same as a 4spd one.
