My nephew has a 99 Corolla and is having a starting issue. About a week ago, the starter got stuck on. Even with the ignition turned off and key removed, the starter kept turning until it finally slowed down and stopped. He just left his car and the next morning, it started up just fine. Now on occasion the starter will click and have to be toggled on and off until it finally turns over. I would assume it's a bad starter, but the episode with it turning over with the key removed stumps me. What do you all think would be causing this?

It's the copper contacts inside the starter, they are worn down and can melt together, keeping the starter running even with ignition keys removed. If this happens again you should disconnect the battery as fast as possible, otherwise you risk burning up your starter. Get a starter rebuilt kit from ebay or somewhere else, costs only around $12 and is an easy fix. check my link: https://99corolla.000webhostapp.com/starter/
