Hi guys! I've recently bought a replacement mirror from autopartsdirecttoyou @ ebay. The Driver Side mirror with Power and Heater cost $39.14 USD, but I did not realize that shipping to cost me $45.00 USD! My own stupid fault for not reading carefully. Anyhow Toyota quoted me $361.54 CAD so I've still saved.

I got the mirror and when I tried to test fit it, I found that the connectors are WAY different!

(Connector FROM the mirror on the LEFT; Connector FROM the door to the OEM mirror on the RIGHT)

What are my options? I tried to contact autopartsdirectotyou but they gotta charge me shipping for the correct one while I still gotta pay another shipping to send them the wrong one. The right mirror is free but the 2 shipping cost way more than the mirror anyways. Spending the effort to argue and all may get me the mirror and 1 shipping for free, but I still gotta send them the wrong and the chance is not high. They do have fine prints saying that shipping for returns are not their responsibility.

Is there adapter for these connectors; or can I cut the connector and connect the wires myself? They both have 5 wires but I don't know which ones to connect.

I'm stuck!
Please help thanks.

Are the pins in the connectors the same? Probably not, but if they are, an option would be to swap the plastic connector shell. Finding the pin-outs would not be that hard, there is ground, switched power for the heater, and the motors. Do the colours of the wires match? If you do have to end up cutting and swapping the connector, do it on the mirror not the car.

If I had to take a wild guess, the pinouts would be:

Black - ground
Yellow - mirror motor
Green - mirror motor
Purple - heating element

The purple and the green might be reversed.

Thank you that is great advise!

The wires on the mirror goes like this:
[BL][X][BL]
[R][BK][Y]

X is empty. I don't think the wires matches colour, like no green and purpose on mirror. I was told the mirror is US and mine was JDM. Have anyone done a conversion like that before?

So if BLACK is ground that leaves 4. If YELLOW matches and one of the BLUE may be the opposite for it. In that case RED would match with PURPLE and the 2nd BLUE is the opposite. So I just have to figure out which BLUE is which.

Can someone confirm this theory? Thanks!

I think I found out what wire does what on the US connector, but does anybody know about the JM connector?
The wires are all in weird colour: (from left to right, clip on top)
BLACK wire WHITE strip | BROWN wire WHITE strip | GREEN wire RED strip | BROWN wire WHITE strip | WHITE wire BLACK strip

Part Number:
87940 MIRROR ASSY, OUTER REAR VIEW, LH **940-33230-E0 1997.08-2001.01

You need a test meter. Easy to find ground, find the heater output by looking for 12 volts. Then the rest are for the mirror. Worst that can happen is the mirror moves wrong so you swap those wires.

I don't know the resistance of the heater element, but I would imagine it is much lower than the motors, so a resistance test will find you that part of the unit.

EDIT - try this, get yourself 4 short wires, bare and twisted at each end. Push the wires into the connector on the car and mirror, Match the colours that you can. Then experiment, with some luck you will find out the right match.
