I would like to install a remote starter, but is it possible to retain the operation of the factory keyless entry/trunk opener key after the install? thanks.

I have am aftermarket Viper remote start but if you wanted to keep the original OEM remote you have to get the OEM remote start kit, according to my knowledge! And I have heard that the original kit sucks major ballz

Not true. You can buy an OEM upgrade remote start and it can be controlled by the factory key remote. If you have the knowledge to do it yourself, you can get one for less than $40.

It'll cost a little more if you have to pay for installation, but still way less than the dealership prices.
