Recently took my dad's 2000 Sienna XLE to a shop to have what felt like a dragging brake or worn wheel bearing repaired. Shop explained the driver's side caliper piston had over-extended and that brake was locked (but it didn't pull to that side?), they suggested replacing both front calipers and brake pads. After the work, they said while bleeding the brakes they noticed the driver's side brakes weren't getting any fluid, and that I needed a new ABS Control Module, which would run about $1700 new. I asked if it was safe to drive without this and they said yes. Well, after driving it a week now, I say it's "drivable" but not really safe (pulling to right pretty good, especially on hard braking).
My question - Is there any way to reset or repair the ABS Control Module, or would this over-extending of the caliper piston cause such damage to the module? And does this ABS module replacement sound like the true culprit?
Also, while looking online to find a rebuilt or used part, I see this model of Sienna can have an ABS Control Module WITH and WITHOUT skid control, but I can't find out for SURE which this van has, even after calling 3 local dealers with my VIN, I'm not 100% confident I have the real answer (all said w/o but in a very wishy-washy way - "I don't see anything about skid control here, so it must be w/o").
Thanks! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
