i have a problem with my 96 Avy.as soon as i start the car my ABS light turns on and when i back upto get out of the drive way my rear right wheel makes a noise like it's metal on metal.checked the brake pads and they have a long ways to go.on the road when i reach 40-45 mph a humming noise comes from the rear,i'm not sure but i'm guessing it comes from the same right rear wheel.i think it's the wheel bearing, that's my guees, but if it's the wheel bearing , is there a connection between that and the ABS light???are the ABS sensors connected to the wheel bearing???
and one last question...If that is the problem do you have any idea how much it would cost????

thanks

Probably its because of your tires. Rotate the tires from back to the front. It should give you an idea, if the noise is coming from tires or something else.

I have a 96 Avalon that I just replaced all the tires on it last Thursday and when I left the Tire dealer and drove away I had the same noise, I immediately went back and the heat shield was loose and hitting the brakes.
Have them check that first.

You could have a worn out wheel bearing/hub assembly in the rear. If the bearing has a lot of play then it can turn on the ABS light since the sensor ring for the ABS is mounted on the hub assembly. The situations mentioned above would cause a noise but wouldnt cause the ABS light to come on. If the bearing is the problem it lists for $297.46 from toyota. (part number 42450-33010, Wheel Hub Assembly) First step would be to jack up the rear wheel and see if there is any movement in the bearing by moving the wheel in and out.
