ABS makes it so that when you stomp on the brakes, like if you were about to rear end someone for instance, you'll slow down instead of breaking the tires free of the road and skidding into the other person's car. nowadays I'd say most people consider ABS an essential safety feature.

it's a good safety feature to have, if possible I would want it in my car. I have an 07 Corolla CE and it doesn't have it. When I brake, I pump the brake a little. It's good practice in case u suddenly need to brake that way. Also, if u have a manual, downshifting really helps.

I just recently bought an 08' S without ABS and so far I've been completely happy. Funny thing is ABS can be nice to have in the winter and living in MN I was a little nervous to get it without it but so far its been fine, no problems, car is just as good in the winter as my last car that did have ABS. Also, good to note, VERY few cars were available in this area with the ABS/curtain air-bag option, you could get one but usually they had to order it, again, odd with MN winters but whatever, I've been fine without it, hope that helps.

you sure you have 08 S model? because ABS is standard for S, maybe you have CE with spoiler, S and LE should have ABS standard. if they charge you the price as for S, I think you got rip off

ABS is not standard for 08 or previous models. I talked to the Toyota salesman. At least not here in the US.

That cant be right. ABS is in almost every car/truck. It shouldnt be an option. Especially in an 08 model.

I know. He said that that was the number one customer complaint about the Corolla. But I just got the 09 Corolla and now ABS comes standard.
Nice. I like how they did the 09. Too bad i like my 02 too much to change over. My dad's 00 or 01 ( i can never remember) doesnt have ABS on it, and it has 100K milies on it and its still going strong.

No, he's right, the 08's ABS is optional. AND i'm sure its a top complaint given how standard it is amongst most newer cars but probably why they went standard with ABS on the 09' but frankly, i'm in MN and driven all this winter in snow, ice, everything without ABS and didn't phase me one bit, love the car, and its one less thing to break that I might have to pay for :)

Haha... true! The more advanced a car gets and the more features it has... the more things there are that's going to break! I wonder what Henry Ford would say about the 2009 Corolla?

but if you like being ripoff by that sales person, I can't stop you , I 100% sure is CE Model you going to get with spoiler on maybe also with aftermarket foglight to jack up the price. in canada, abs comes with S and LE but NOT CE. as I double check on the 2008 corolla E-brochure and it shows is standard.

PS. Corolla S also comes with Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel, Chrome Inner Door Handles, which don't come with CE or LE as OE.

here is the link for the Canada 2008 E-brochure
