Need some advice. Left the house at noon today and got on the freeway, the ac wasn't blowing cold, less than cool. So I lowered the windows and continued. Got off about 20 miles later and tried the AC again, it was bolwing a little bit cool, not enough to cool me down and I noticed temp rising up to about 3/4. Turned off the AC and the temp started to go down. All the time I could hear as if the compresor clutch was swithing on/off. Went did my thing and came back a 1hr later and tried the AC again and it started working fine! I'm still concerned why all that happened. :disappoin Any Ideas? Thanks in advance...

If the coolant temp is rising make sure the A/C radiator fan is working.

The system might be low on Freon or have an issue with the evaporator valve plugging or freezing up. See if there is a sight glass on top of the A/C dryer usually located inside the engine compartment near the radiator. If the dryer has this you can view the Freon running through the system. There should not be any bubbles when the A/C is running.

Let me just say that I'm a little jealous that you can run the ac this time of year!!

I am a little jealous also. Last time I used A/C was......well let's just say it was many months back. It's 40F outside here right now.

Check your coolant level also. Be sure to check both the radiator and the expansion tank.

I swapedout the thermostast and the temp has been running fine all wekk. I'll take a look for that spy window this weekend. If it's low on gas should I get the kit that comes with the sealant as well or just the freon?

Most of the cars on this forum had R-12 originally. Many have been swapped over to 134A. Don't just add freon unless you are certain which you have. The sealant may cause more problems than it cures. Do some more research on the forum. There are several posts.
