I have just purchased a 2000 Tacoma 3.4/5spd/4x4. I am interested in knowing more about the automatic differential disconnect system. It sounds to me that it doesn't disconnect much. Is it necessary to install manual locking hubs to stop the front drive train rotating or am I missing something here? The other 4x4's I've had had manual locking hubs which were a pain but reduced wear and rotating mass, wear on the drive components and mileage was better too.
