adding intermittent wipers

I’m trying to add intermittent wipers on my 88 Corolla 4dr (AE92). I replaced the stock headlight/wiper switch with one that has the intermittent control but it doesn’t seem to work. All it does is set the wipers to low speed. Is there something I’m missing?
