Adding speakers

Would adding high end speakers to my rig make it have better highs/mids/lows? Or would I really need to add a good quality amp to see the effects of the new speakers?

You will see a nice increase in sound. But the best best would be a new head unit and amp . . .

I started with just speakers for a while then it turned intoa MONSTER.

Check it out when you get a chance.
I have finally ordered the TacoTunes speaker kit. I also went to Best Buy today and picked up some Alpine SPS-170A speakers. $99 a pair. I got 6.5" all the way around. It will be nice. I plan to keep the stock tweeters as well.

Please post your opinion of the of updated speakers and sound difference. I'm thinking of doing the same.
I'd say at least get a small two channel amp, maybe like 75 watts rms x 2, and a set of components.

The difference from 12 distorted watts compared to 75 clean watts makes a very big difference.

Why the 6.5 all around vs 6.9s? (thinking of this same upgrade)

Because round(6.5") speakers put out better sound quality vs oval(6x9s) speakers.
I'm one of the guys that just changed the speakers (coaxials, 6.5 rears, 6x9 fronts, left the stock tweeters),and they sound way better than stock.Between the speakers, and speaker adapter kit, it was under $300. I was just looking for something that was an improvement over stock, while spending as little as possible, and this worked for me.

This is what I'm thinking about doing. Heck, lots of manufacturer descriptions of their speakers mention that certain models are excellent for replacing factory speakers.

But...

(Quote from Robsatx) "You will see a nice increase in sound. But the best best would be a new head unit and amp . . .

...this is what I'm afraid of.
Hey Count,

You should upgrade your speakers!
It's about a $300 deal. The only reason I would upgrade the deck is if you want a TV or MP3. You can add an iPod to your truck for about 70 bux.

Your sound system will sound much better with new speakers.
I spent 200 on Alpine speakers and 100 on the Tacotunes kit.
I Factory sub must only like certain frequency inputs. It is always "late" to kick in and it sound s totally "floppy." Are these powered subs?
I have actually changed my plans. I plan to return my Type-S Alpine speakers and I have just ordered off eBay the Type-R version coaxials for the same price I paid for the Type-S speakers!

Amazing deal. I just hope they work and are not defective.
Anyone have experience with IndoAudio on eBay?
Did you look at their Feedback? They just ripped off a TON of people.
SHIT. I hope I don't get ripped off. I am just so stressed. I really want these speakers here now. BUT, if they come defective I need to calm down and relax and exchange.

For some reason I am trippin' out becuase I don't want them to come defective! Weird huh. I just find that an exchange for a defective product on eBay is almost impossible. It is really not impossibe, but it takes a HELL of a long time. I just really want those speakers here NOW with no defects. So I can enjoy them for Christmas.

I predict everything to go well!
What's the difference between Types R and S Alpine speakers?
The Type-R's are the better model of the coaxial speakers from Alpine. I heard them and they sound more natural than the Type-S's. I really liked how the Type-R's sounded at Best Buy but they were too much money. I decided to order them off the net for the same price as the Type-S's so now I got the Type-R's. They will be here on Wednesday. My TacoTunes kit should be here today.
Is it easy to change the factory sub? Mine sucks. Maybe a new mono channel amp and new speaker?

It should be pretty easy. Find the mounting diameter of the stock sub, and the mounting depth and I think I could find something that will work good in the stock enclosure.

I have a nice mono amp for sale see link in my sig.
Does that mono amp piggy back off the main, 4 channel amp?
