Hey All,

I've been lurking for awhile and I've gotta say - I love this place. When I bought my '91 4x4 V6, it came without a jack or tools, unbeknownst to me. I recently found a screw in my tire, and realized that I could be in trouble without the necessary hardware. The trouble is, with 31x10.5 tires I'm having a hard time finding a bottle jack that is tall enough and the scissors all seem kind of weak. Does anyone have any recommendations? A friend measured the OEM jack and said it goes up 18". The 12 and 20 ton bottles will go that tall, but I was hoping for a more elegant solution.

As for the tools, I had heard that you need the OEM jack crank to get the spare down. A previous owner fixed that on my truck by grinding out the hole on the mechanism that raises and lowers the spare, so it just needs a rod with a tee on the end - which I don't have either. Again, any suggestions are appreciated.

Bottle jack

As for the crank, try a salvage yard. One from any 1st or 2nd gen p/u or 4Runner, 2WD or 4WD will work.

A) TOYOTA salvage yard, might get lucky and find an oem bottle jack and tool kit.

B) aftermarket Bottle Jack, lift by the front x-brace, or rear axle

C) Install stout sliders and/or true offroad bumpers, use a HI-Lift :) plus these look cool mounted to the beds headboard, shows you are hardcore (well, not really).

Thanks for the suggestions guys. That's kind of what I was expecting. I'm still a little hesitant about using a bottle jack on the rear axle on the side of the road. Maybe I will look into the sliders and Hi-Lift.

As for the spare access, can anyone think of a jack tool from any manufacturer that is a rod with a tee on the end? A standard toyota jack tool isn't going to work for me anymore. :disappoin

If you get a high lift and sliders you should get one of WABFAB or Badland Bumper's jack cradles. They mount on the hi-lift foot and securely hold the tube of the slider so that it doesn't easily slip off. This is important for safety. As far as the tool for the spare, well I would recommend going to a wrecking yard or borrowing one to remove your spare tire. I took off my tire crank since my 37" spare won't fit under the bed.
