Am looking for input regarding alarms. Thank you.

Just bought an 09 Sienna and am looking at the Toyota VIP Security System RS3200 with Glass Breakage Sensor--$455 installed. What is its range--how far can one be from it and still be notified? Does the key fob beep when the car is kicked, when the hood is pried open, when a door or the tailgate is opened? Does the car honk or light up if attacked?

I checked out the Viper system--about the same price. Have to use their key fob and it will NOT unlock or open the tailgate at all. It does not have a "door" icon to unlock the the doors. Instead one must press some combination of 2 buttons--and who knows if it will make the doors slide open. The Viper key fob does have a little picture screen indicating if the van is being hammered on, if the hood is being opened or a door is being opened or if glass is shattering and has a 1,000' range.

(Why does ToyotaNation want/need my year/month and day of birth for registration purposes??????????)

Get a Viper alarm with the proximity sensor, and you can install, well a Pro, can install it to open doors, lower or raise windows, even make coffee for you if you install a coffee maker to the appropriate relay, (i'm not kidding). They are the best out there for the price. Do not get the Factory glass sensor alarm, it sucks, i have it on my 05 tacoma, and it does not work! I'm replacing the taco factory system, and instaling a new one on both taco and 04 sienna i own.

I really hope all goes well for you, the installer could have programed the key fob to open the hatch, by pressing a combination of two buttons simultaneously, or like you said. We needed the 2 way remote due to a irresponsible person who rammed our van and left a phony note with a fake number, we were inside a building right next to the parking spot, if the key fob would have been triggered I would easily seen even confront who crashed into our car. Best wishes for you.
