My 1992 Previa has developed a very annoying problem: The alarm occasionally just goes off for no reason. I'm pretty sure it's a factory original alarm, not an add-on. It's parked in my driveway, and suddenly the horn starts honking and honking, and I need to run out and unlock the door to stop it. At first, these incidents were widely separated, but lately, they've been getting more common. I need some advice: Can I just disable the alarm? I'd rather not spent a bunch of money to fix it.

we had this problem as well. it turned out to be some wires that rotted bare and were contacting something triggering the alarm. we lost a left tail indicator lamp and got keyed by an angry neighbor... when we adopted the car we didnt even know it had an alarm.

My van did the same thing about 3 years ago. Turned out that when it happened, my rear interior light was on. The issue turned out to be the little button for the sliding door that controls the rear lights. For some reason, when you push it in, the light went out, but if the sliding door did it, the boutton wouldn't go in. Therefore, the door would be detected as opened and the alarm would go off.Check yours because that could be the case.

Alarm Issues

My 1995 previa started to do this recently too. It first did it while we were out of town and the neighbor had to call us and crawl through the dog door to get the keys. I am pretty sure that the neighborhood cats love to sit under the van. I think sometimes they fight under there and bump the van or something and that sets it off. I haven't seen this actualy trigger it but that is my speculation
