I listened to a set of Alpine SPX-177R
(http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn...77R&p_category=80&p_subcategory=155&p_main=10) yesterday and they sound pretty nice. They are asking about $600 for a pair and I was wondering if there is anything that sounds nicer for the same or less price point?

I am located in Toronto, Canada. These are going in my 2002 Camry LE V6 with the Alpine 9813 deck

I can get you a pair of DLS iridiums that will crush those speakers for less, they retail for 800 bucks
what model is it and how much can u get it in Canadian $$

where u located?
personally i have never liked alpine speakers, UNTIL last year, they actually hired some guys from morel to do some designs for them, i have quite the choice of speakers for myself, MB quarts, Focal, Diamond, boston acoustics. I find myself gradually going towards the 177r's. they are very fluid throughout thier range, there are definatly speakers out there that have better mid-bass response, but its difficult these days to actually find a speaker that doesnt have alot of peaks and valleys in thier response.
if need be i could get you a pair of them form 300.00 USD.

The most important thing to remember is, its your ear that will determine what kind of speaker you will gravitate too.
how much would shipping cost to Toronto, Canada?

I also have to factor the hit i'd take in duty once they cross the border
well i dont know how soon you want to do it, but after meeting most of you toronto guys this weekend, IM COMING BACK!!!!! As far as duties go, do they have to know whats in the box, can i say its a present? shipping not going to be too bad, the box is medium sized, and not TOOO heavy. I would say like 20 bucks.
shit, I didn't know there was a meet this weekend. Would have loved to meet you guys and seen what upgrades were done on your cars.
There was an article in Car Audio Magazine comparing irridiums, morel, rainbow, and alpines. The alpine came up on top. I think it was the spx series, but not the spx's you find for 600 bucks. This set costs in the thousands. I think the article said the alpines has the best tweeter they ever heard, and the midbass and vocals were extraordinary. You can try and find that article online or soemthing and see if its the set of speakers that you are looking at.
anyone got a link to the article?

For $500 Cad, whats the best component set I can get that are 6x9 components or 6.5" components?

They were the F1 set, which are waaaaaaaaaaay too expensive, the woofer is a scan speak revelator. Not even their own design
The set's go for 1,500.00 each and are sold in single sets. One on each side of your car would set you back 3 Large. I've heard the set and will agree with the article.

eddiem67, which model number is the Alpine woofer? I am thinking 18W/4531G00. One of these days, I like to replace my RMB8 with one of the 7" Revelators.

For $600, you can probably get your hands on a pair of 3-way Focal Kevlar K2's.

Focal > Alpine
mmmmm....focal 3-ways....those are solid
I like the Focals but some find them too harsh. Those new Alpines look good on paper but I haven't had the chance to listen to them yet. I'm looking forward to it though.
CDT Audio would be a less expensive alternative to the Alpines. They are also manufactured by Vifa/Scan-Speak/Morel. The CDT lineup has several tweeter options so you can find a set with the sound you prefer.
I agree there are alot of components that are not big name brand from franchise stores that cost less and are waaaay better.
you do get more for your money on the companies that are making a better name for themselves. We had AVI for awhile, for the price they were awesome. Dont carry them anymore =0(
ohh well, the psd's that are for sale would be an AWESOME purchase for the money
Yeah buy my PSD's
