well coming out of staples, a Camry caught my eye. The bright red color 95/96 Camry with matching color mudgaurds. Very nice looking. Also had the - ithink - first generation Solara rims (6 spoke with black center) but what really confused me is the front fender. You know the white/grey ones say "Collecter Edition"Camrys, this one said Ämerican Edition"Camry. I've just never seen that and thought I'd ask you all. It didn't look as though it was done by the owner. anyone seen or heard of that?

American editions have the 3vz-fe/1mz-fe motor depending on the year, thats about all i know. A friend of mine had one a while ago but I forget what year it was. They were a toyota made vehicle, not some guy's stickercharged creation.

if it was a 95/96 like you described, then it has the 1mz-fe...

probably just a cosmetic package, nothing really special...

rare, though..

The gen3 American Editions also have single piece door glass in the back vs. 2 windows (1 roll up/down and 1 fixed). I found this out when I called around for tint quotes.

i noticed this is rare these days, but my sister in law's 2004 Corolla S's rear windows roll ALL the way down...

i was shocked..:eek::D

It's a slightly differently styled window. Instead of the curve, it's like the solid window is now replaced with metal. I'll try to find some pics to compare....

The Camry is also stock, but this Camry is special because it was a limited edition called “American Edition” witch brought a lot of cool features. The only thing the sucks about the Camry is that the engine is not so great as in terms of horse power, so me and my dad have agreed on getting a new engine, but witch one

Obviously the fronts roll all the way down. It has been illegal in the US to ahve bakc windows roll all the way down for more than a decade.

My ES dose a neat trick to get around it though. The front of the window goes all the way down and the back goes about 3/4 of the way down.

It's neat in that when it happens the back half that's in the air is now angled out slightly and will suck a little air in the car. It let's smokers have that hand out the window too ;) I'd give you a shot but my car's torn down and I'm not about to hook the battery up and turn the key and let the fuel pump spray fuel everywhere. ;)

My sister in law's had 2 2004 corolla S's (dont ask, but she didnt wreck it, though.) and the rears roll ALL the way down...

i remember being in my mom's old buick skylark (when i was like, 8), and wondering why the rears didnt go all the way down..:D

Gulf States Toyota

they offered/still offer all kinds of packages...like the soft fabric tops over the hardtops ala lincoln town cars/caddies.

3rd gens had the American Edition, 4th gens had the Gallery Edition, even ES300's have the Coach Edition with Coach leather interior & Black Pearl emblems

aside from the badge I've never been able to find any differences... perhaps, since it was big in the mid 90's for everything to be "made in the USA" they added the label "American Edition" to make sure your average joe schmoe hick would realize it was made in Kentucky

Never seen or heard of this solid rear window thing and a solid rear window part no. doesn't exist on my copy of the Toyota Motor Co. EPC.

in terms of the rear windows
i remember hearing that it was a safety issue..most dont have um roll down all the way as a safety precaution for kids
some doors have a little switch along the side of the door that allows u to lock the window closed completely
much like the switch on the driver's side allowing u to lock the passenger window from going down (pwr windows)

like with all other packages its a gimmick
"american camry"
makes it sound special doesnt it? as opposed to the "canadian camry" or "japanese camry"---well we'd all like some jdm pieces..

the coach es300 has different rims, better leather, smoked emblems woot :woowoo: :slap:
the starcraft edition conversion van with taller roofs and special seats more cupholders and crap
the nautica edition minivan has nautica embossed in the seats :fruit:

unless its like a special edition like the mazdaspeed turbo miata..most packages are only cosmetic..with a different interior and exterior pieces nothing major

ur paying more for basically nothing..unless u wanna roll around and be like "i got coach leather"
