American v Japanese built mirror

I am not sure of this, but I think the difference between American-built and Japanese-built side mirrors is that one is secured by three bolts, and the other four.

I remember hearing it somewhere. So I don't believe that they are interchangeable.

i would think it might be angled wrong, since its intended for the driver on the opposite side... just take the safe route and get the US one

Yeah, but since they drive on the other side of the road in Japan, looking through that mirror would be like looking at the lens that our cars here have on the passenger side. It would work, but not very safe. Hence:the label "Objects in Mirror are closer than they appear" that is written on the passenger side mirror. I would stick with a mirror from a car that is left hand drive like here and not right hand drive like in Japan. Someone made a thread about this topic before.

i guess i should pay more attention to mirrors then.

but his Camry was built in Japan for the market here.. like the Camry sold here in Canada, even though they were built in Japan but they were built for the left hand drive, therefore, 98CamryLE is probably right. I noticed that on web as well, they do sell side mirrors that were listed as US built and Japan built... maybe you can just e-mail the person to see if they are interchangeable.. I wonder why heated side-mirrors are not offered in gen 4 or 4.5 Camry here in Canada.. we needed them more :lol:

the thing with driving on the other side is completely wrong... in the US, there are cars ASSEMBLED in US or JAP... the japanese assembled ones have different side mirrors... im not sure what the difference is, but i believe there is one... cause there are different mirrors for each. i know cause i had to replace a mirror once...

some of the jap cars had a slightly convex mirror on the left hand side, not sure if it applies here, but some of the imports over here in Aust are like that...

Here in Europe we do have other kinds of mirror, so it seems there are three types ! ;-) (I don't know why they are different bu the design is totally different)
What you say about Japanese seems a bit weird. While it is true that you can't use mirrors from a RHD to a LHD, the fact that these cars were made in Japan doesn't mean that they are RHD. We do have many British cars in Europe and not all of them are RHD (only the ones that are in the UK. Furthermore most of the Toyota's that are sold in Europe were made in the UK, though they are not all RHD either.

Mirror angles are adjustable but to a certain extend. To verify this, just sit on the passenger side and adjust both mirrors as if you were the driver : you'll see it is impossible

THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE OF JDM VS. USDM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

these are BOTH USDM mirrors, just assembled in japan or US... my god dudes... they are both left hand drive, they look exactly the same. there are only very minor differences. one of them is the mirror. get the right one!

when i replaced my mirrors, i had to make sure they were japanese built to fit my car. i dont know the difference but i know there is one.

Very old thread but searchers may find it later. The difference in the USA- Japan mirrors is the very different electrical connector. And the wiring color codes are very different. So some guessing about the colors and wire purpose MIGHT get it hooked up correctly while handling and splicing very small wires.
