anybody get there brake pads replaced under the TSB? i called a dealer and the service guy said i would have to pay 24.95 for them to look at it and determine if it qualifies. should i just change them with aftermarket pads myself? toyota pads from the dealer will be the same ones that are on the car correct? i only have 18,000 miles.

you pay what? for them to look at it? that sounds like some serious BS to be honest...if you change to after market and you see they are still defective you are responsible for any thing there after..for better performance change em

when I have an issue and send the car over to toyota, i tell them the issue and the research it free of charge..

just over a month and a half ago, my corolla's brakes were squeaking and it was due to sort of dust getting into the rotors..ended up having both my front rotors re surfaced..

now again I am going thru the same issue and toyota cannot replicate the issue..mind you my car is at 7k miles and my brakes were resurfaced at 6k miles..
my dealer said that they were going to charge us the same price but when I got there, they did no such thing
update!!

i pulled one side off and the outside pad was like new but the inside was gone. took it to the dealer and he said if just the driver side looks that way somebodys been riding the brakes. he said if both sides are that way maybe the slides need to be greased or theres a problem with the calipers. both dealers i talked to pretty much tried to explain it away as something i or the previous drivers did or mormal wear. the car was a service loaner so there were all kinds of different drivers.

oh it was a Toyota Rental:ugh3: that explains A LOT! I would just keep trying and [email protected]#$% at them until you get what you want. That always works for me:lol:
Mine have been squeaking since 10k as well. Annoying as all hell. I am sure now they will blame it on the wheels, even though they weigh less than the stockers.

wow I thought they would have weighed more:eek:

Just under a pound less believe it or not. They are all machined aluminum so they dont weigh that much. Only 7.5" wide as well so not much in the way of material in them.

Pads should always wear evenly inside & outside. If there is a mechanical problem it would cause what you've seen, not riding the brakes. They are trying to explain you away. :ugh3:
for starters i dont think they were ever checked before they sold me the car as a toyota certified vehicle cause i find it hard to believe they wore out in 3000 miles. it had 15000 when i bought it now it has 18000. i talked to the service manager today. he's saying the pads wouldnt be covered regardless so i have to go get pads before i drive it there from the dealer by my house then drive it 30 miles to the dealer where i bought it. somethin aint right cause when they started grindin you can hear it takes 4-5 seconds before they quit grindin after you release the pedal. the driver side got so hot the pad material cracked and fell off becuase they were so thin.
rieds,
PM me your VIN so I can see if there are any open Service Campaigns. If so, that may get you out of the inspection fee. Even if you go in with the understanding that there is a fee for brake inspection, if it is covered under warranty, that fee should be waived. I am going to attach a link to a TSB that addresses your very complaint. I hope it helps you solve your problem/situation.

Same here!! I haven't had time to take it in though.
Brand new car + squealing brakes=
i took the car to the dealer where i bought it after i bought pads from the dealer by me and they are going to do the work in service bulletin for free and refund the money i spent for the pads when they get there authorization from Toyota and the pads come in. not what i was expecting after talking to them on the phone. the mechanic left his socket wrench on the tray under the windshield. wonder how much it's worth to him not to give it to his boss? just kidding. I'll try to sneak it in to him when i go back to have the pads installed.
As long as you have ample pad life left, complain about a squeek noise to fall into the tsb.
I have never heard the brakes squeak before:confused: and neither in any other 10th gen I've ridden in.....it would really bother me:facepalm:
i dont know if i've ever had a car that the brakes didn't squeek after enough brake dust built up. i've noticed it only takes a day after i wash the car before theres a healthy coating of black dust on the rim.
