I had a car that had the clear plastic headlights that in the 8th year of ownership started to become opaque then it clouded up more and more.

Eventually had to use Mothers plastic polish to make it clearer.

Is there any product out there that will prevent or prolong this from happening that I can apply to the headlights.

Kind of like the wax on the paint protects it from the sun and elements.

So to would I like a plastic protector that will extend the life of the headlights by preventing the clouding.

Just regular carnuba? I'm using Klasse AIO and finishing with sealer. This OK?
Something with UV protectant would be better.

I use just the AIO on mine. I have used Meguiar's PlastX as well. My headlights still look clear so I guess they are doing the trick so far.

On my 1993 BMW I had before the Tacoma, the headlights had become very yellow and hazy. I didn't get the car until it was about 10 years old. I had some Zymol stuff that worked wonders on them. Had to apply it every 3 months or so but it made them almost crystal clear again. Not sure what it was or how much it costs but it was good for after the fact.

I would keep using the AIO.

^ This is fine. You might want to put a synthetic wax or the Klasse Glaze Sealant over it.

I use-

Klasse AIO then some Plexus to protect them. I use it on all the cars and they look great.
Plexus is good shit. I forgot about that stuff.

I have never used anything on my plastic headlamp lenses, and never had any hazing or yellowing. My Grand Cherokee is 13 years old and the lenses are still near perfect.

Dunno if washing *might* have anything to do with it... I always use car wash soap, which is milder than dish detergent, and won't strip wax like detergent. And I use lots of water so there's never any hard scrubbing.

Everyone is talking about sanding and fixing discoloration.

I am asking about prevention. Please give me your ideas about preventing this from happening, NOT fixing a pristine, clear headlight that is two weeks old.

You've gotten several good ideas on how to prevent it. Other than wax and 3M plastic there isn't much you can do.
The other comments are for people that want to repair discolored headlights.

Yes, I see the comments. Got nothing on clear adhesive covers and got threads that don't even pertain.

Thanks for supervising the thread. Knucke+head.

3M makes a clear adhesive product that can be used on headlights or any other part of your vehicle. Find it yourself.

You are welcome, Ass+hole.

Dude what Im telling you with the clear coat process is the with a high solid clear coat its uv protectant.........the headlamps on your taco are plastic and can be broken down by uv light over time. The clear coat will stop this.......if you dont want to go that route I suggest using polish specifically for plasctic you can buy at autozone. Any thing else will help in the process of breaking down the plstic.
