My first post here since discovering (sob) that Siennaclub is no more. Long live Toyotanation!!!

So, two days ago I noticed surface rust on the rear door (hatch) of my 2005 Sienna CE. Specks just under the window, to the right of the T, and at least one to the left of the licence.

The car's been in service more than 3 years, almost 4, but I went to the dealer anyway to see what they would say. This is the only place the car's rusting, so I'm suspecting poor paint application or surface preparation.

First it was,"Well, you know they don't build cars as well as they used to".
Then, "We've seen this before. Toyota says it's due to gravel or salt being kicked up by another car in a parking lot hitting your car and damaging the paint".

Yeah, right.

So I expect I probably AM out of luck, but I'm curious:
Any one else have rust "specks" on their 2nd generation Sienna rear hatches?
Anyone get help for a dealer or from Toyota to fix such a problem.

Took a look at a friend's 09 LE today- also has some rust specks on the rear hatch. Fortunately, his car's been in service less than 3 years.

He'll be visiting his dealer and I'll be interested to know what he finds out.
