Hey guys and gals...Im currentley the proud, loving (as far as I know I'm sane ) owner of a 1981 Toyota Corolla XX. 5 speed manual transmission, 1.3 carby 4KC motor, sunrrof, and what the? Air-con? Not bad for an '81 model...Tho it has been d/c because the compressor pulley decided to seize and I just havent been bothered to find a replacement and fix it...4/80 air con for now...wind down 4 windows and drive at 80kms/hr LOL.

Anyways........I have been contemplating upgrading the hardware of this machine since I intend to keep it for a while, body's in good shape, just everything else is ummm, less than perfect lol. Over time I will be replacing most of the suspension, drivetrain and god forbid...the motor. But, at the moment I am busy repairing the rear brakes as a cylinder inside the drum brakes burst...bringing a few other things to my attention and requiring the rebuild of the brakes.

What I am seeking is knowledge from anyone or anywhere about fitting other model parts as replacements for the standard items, with the intent to 'improve things' and as anyone who has owned a KE-series Corolla will tell you, theres plenty of room for improvement lol. For example, I am looking to upgrade the rear brakes from drum to disc, has anyone done this and have any info/help/anything that may aid me? I intend to do alot of the labour myself, only for the serious stuff (i.e drivetrain/motor) will it see a specialist. The reason for this, as well as using second hand parts (from either corolla or other) is because I dont have the cash to modify my car as most tend to, but I intend to do what I can to improve my ride. We all have to start somewhere...And please no posts telling me to buy a better car...

from what i know you can use the rear off of a newer gts and it should bolt up with few mods and for the front you can change those to vented discs by using the ones off of a cressieda.

someone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong

Cool, but ummm define newer gts? year? model etc?

Cressida I have seen and thought about, gotta keep the brakes so theyll fit in standard 13" rims atm tho....Thats my problem :S Also will I need the Cressida master cylinder? The brake booster as well?

Looking at fitting an AE101 Rear swaybar...any thoughts?

before they switched to fwd just about any rwd corolla set up should do as for sway bars i'm not sure oh btw do you have leaf springs or coil?

DRaKeN... welcome to TN and congratulations on the car. quite a rare find nowadays. ok, since you're car has a 4K motor it shares basically the same engine on any "K" cars. ie, KEXX and KPXX. you might have a hard time getting parts for this motor for it's not a popular motor anymore like it used to be. you can for prolly cheaper expense do a motor swap and get a 3TC motor. this came with the Corollas form the early '80s. any Corolla you see from that time that has a TEXX designation has this motor. it's got bigger diplacement and a lot of hardcore potential. this is easier to find i assume rather than a running 3/4/5K motor.

i just noticed your in aussie land too they have some 2tg and 3tg motor there also tha are alot better than the 3tc and 2tc motors dur to the fact that they are dohc motors with the same block

2/3TG is not as common as 3TC. they're rare motors so if you find one built it's been raced and abused already. i highlt doubt you'll ever find a fresh 2TG. FYI, just because 2TG is a DOHC doesn't mean they're better. tell that to the Puerto Ricans. a mildly tuned 3TC will eat a 2TG just because they're lighter and have bigger displacement. Aussies like drag just like the Americans that's the reason for my 1/4 mile comparison.

wont freakin start

my 83 ke70 wont freakin start can any1 give advice coz it started the day b4 i just shut it off came bak next day nutin works battery is fully charged could it be the battery leads of the starter and will it work with aclutch start or a hammer to the starter any advice will be appreciated thanks

Springs and shocks dude I may e stuck with drum brakes on the rear (for now) but no way in hell im driving a car with leaf springs!! lol

And as for the engine, this will come last in my modifcations list, but when it does, a 4-AGE 20V or a hopefully a 4-AGZE (in my dreams a 13B Turbo...) Easy enough to modify and reasonably cheap for a front cut and other bits and pieces too....

K370kid...this has happened to me as well...coupla times i got lucky and when i turned the key it turned over, rather than the nothing of 10 seconds prior, or I roll started the POS (love manual trannies!!!). Am yet to discover the source of this gremlin....will keep ya posted! But check all leads and stuff, and failing that, I recommend a 2.5kg hammer LOL.

P.S Drag racing doesnt interest me much, where are the friggin corners?!?!? Ill take it once or twice down the 1/4 just to establish a benchmark time, but after that, its all circuit work baby!! lol And yes Im aware that if I intend to circuit race this car Ill need to do things a lil differentley...but hey, Im not Schumacher. Like he'd drive a KE70 PMSL

Okay..what beneifts will this give me? Road vs circuit etc?
And which lincoln, and where can I get one in Australia? Major mods required to make it fit?
