I own a 2002 Toyota Camry LE with the 2.4l I4. I was wondering if my base model does not come with DRLs? On my switch by the steering wheel (as pictured), I have a setting that says "DRL" and "DRL off". However, the sensor that detects light does not seem to be in my car at all? (pictured) The car is fairly new to me so I have manually been turning lights on and off, is it safe to assume my car has a useless DRL switch? Could I install a sensor myself from a junkyard?

Looking at Edmunds.com, they list DRL as a standard safety feature. DRL are always on if the car is turned on and you have the DRL switch on. Simple way of checking is turn the car on and check if the DRL are on. It should be the reduced high beams.

The sensor you are talking about controls the "auto headlight feature". This turns your headlights automatically at night or low light situations. The switch should have an "auto" setting which allows the sensor to turn the lights on in low light situations. The switch you have does NOT have "auto". My guess is you can add the sensor but you'll have to either change the switch.

Hopefully someone can give you an idea how easy or hard this is to do.

My 2003 LE (ordered with 3.0 V6) has DRL but no automatic headlights or sensor.

It's neat that you can turn the DRL off, but there is no way to run parking lights without the DRL being activated. Unfortunately the DRL is on even if you are in park or neutral.
