Hey guys, I have a 1995 Camry with an ASC sunroof. Haven't gotten a chance to test it out yet, as I've been busy freshening up the engine and the car electrical hasn't been powered since I bought it. From what I've read, I think the ASC ones were a dealer-installed option.

It rattles and jumps when I shut the doors, and looks very loose. Do any of you have any experience with this kind of sunroof? I.e., common problems, fixes, etc. I'm going to tackle it once I start the car up.

Thanks.

I didn't know that sunroofs were dealer installed.

Yeah, in the 90's ASC sunroofs were dealer-installed options on a lot of makes...Toyota, Mazda, etc. I think they were the factory sunroof on Cadillacs.

In any case, I took it apart, cleaned everything, found the missing hardware (somebody had been at it before and left the hardware lying in the tracks, woohoo), and greased the bejesus out of everything, and it works!...mostly. Still has a bit of trouble closing reliably.

I'll start another thread and link to it here for the DIY disassembly/troubleshooting.

I have a '03 XLE ,so it may not be identical to yours. The interesting thing about this one is that when the battery is disconnected, the roof has to be 'reset'. This just means that you use the roof position control to move the roof all the way to the rear and then all the way forward. Mine wouldn't completely close until the reset was performed. If you can find an owner's manual, the instructions should be there.

Yeah, a nice sunroof parts company had the disassembly manual, so they gave it to me - I did the reset procedure. Well, it opens and closes now, albeit slowly and sometimes stops and backs up (high resistance). I'll see about adjusting it, and will have to get around to posting pics...

I had never seen an ASC sunroofs...thought it was only a factory thing you could get.
