Hey guys/gals

I'm in a rock and a hard place, I'm fed up with buying shit vehicles from used car thieves, and I'm in a position where I can afford to lease a vehicle then prehaps buy it out, anyways here are the options (yes theres a non-toy option in there, don't rule it out based on make, give reasons).

2008 City Golf, manual, power opts, A/C and stability (only one they have on the lot), 48mth lease, 25000km/yr, $285 taxes in/mth.

(all leases are 48/mth 24000km)
2008 Toyota Tacoma Access cab (4x2), as per Toyota.ca, $330/mth base manual

2008 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Dbl cab v6, as per Toyota.ca $507/mth

2008 Lexus is250, manual (no lease option on lexus.ca that I can see, but price is around $31,500).

Pros and cons:
Golf
+Bumper to bumper warranty at no additional cost, walk away lease or buyout for $11000+
+Cheapest out of all 4 by far
-Its a VW and right now they aren't good in my books (two blown H/Gs)

Taco Access
+Comparible fuel mileage with golf, surprisingly
+Cheaper insurance, which may make lease+insurance, cheaper than golf
-2 doors, I like my 4 doors
-RWD only

Taco dblcab
+4 doors!
+Cheaper insurance
+4x4!
-Fuel mileage
-Most expensive

Lexus is250 was just there as a place holder, I'd rather sedan than truck, but if the is250 is cheaper than the Taco dbl cab, then I'll grab that.

Please reply with as much info as possible from personal experiences or whatnot, I'm walking into this blind and I need a car asap, thanks to everyone!

yeah I was going to, I forgot to mention

VW is offering me 1% off the lease due to having a VW
and $750 because I grad college w/in two years

Toy is not offering nuffin but $1000 towards the taco for the grad

Buyout on the golf is $2000 higher than the taco...

I think you really need to do some work for yourself before asking others. You have very different vehicles listed- with payments that range from the upper 200's all the way to the 500/ month range.

You need to find out what kind of vehicle you need. Do you need a truck, a small compact car, or a sporty near-luxury car???

In addition, I'm not sure what the rates are in Canada- but now is a great time to purchase a car (vs. lease) in the U.S. due to the weak dollar. The interest rates are very low, and in many cases you don't need much of a down payment. If you are planning on buying out your lease at the end anyway, you might be better off purchasing the vehicle right away rather than leasing first. Ask your bank to run the numbers for you.

That said, I'd steer clear of the VW. VW's are known for electrical problems, and much of the engineering is not user-friendly. Many mechanics are not experienced with working on VW's, and that's an excuse to avoid them or charge extra to service them.

Tacomas are great trucks, but unless you actually need a pickup truck, why get one? I'd be sure that you really need a pickup on a regular basis before buying/leasing one... it's more expensive to operate and maintain than a car.

The Lexus is a wonderful choice if you can afford it. It will probably hold it's value better than the others, and will be very well built, so you don't really have to worry about breakdowns and unexpected costs. On the other hand, the Lexus will be the most expensive to maintain. Also, if you don't really need a luxury car, why get one.

Based on your options, you may want to consider the following:
1) Acura TSX: Cheaper than the Lexus, will hold its value almost as well, and very reliable. Lots of vehicle for the money.
2) A Corolla: You can probably get a really awesome deal on a 2008, because the 2009's are about to come out. More reliable and cheaper to insure than the VW.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

the purchase time is right now however, and I've got around $2000 to play with from the purchase of the current 94 golf which is fucked. (financed by debt so NOT using this is great)

And yes I know the vehicles are different, but there are no more 08 Corolla CE 5spds available in the ON market (according to Toyota dealer).

The Lexus was up there incase anyone knows what I'd get for a lease agree with Lexus since their website did bollocks.

Wow, is that for real? Not a single one in any of the Toyota dealerships in the GTA?

I know they'll be pushing the brand new Corollas, so I'd suspect the dealerships would lie about not having any previous gen Corolla in stock.

Good luck with your search. If you can find an 08 CE 5spds, then you might not have to settle with a City Golf.

Well Toyota does offer TGFS. So in addition to the Grad Rebate, you can get special finance rates (dunno about lease but I presume a similar thing exists) that work with existing special rates. I'd take advantage of the 2.9% (48mths) finance for the Yaris (2.7% with grad finance plus lower monthly payments for the first year of finance). It's about $400ish for an LE convenience package and a manual and just under $500 for an RS with a manual for 48 months finance. It's cheap to insure and you know maintenance is dirt cheap (dunno how much VW charges for maintenance or if it's incl'd).

I don't know much about pickup trucks so I'll leave it to someone else with more experience.

I'll skip the IS. O&F is $200 and full maintenance is $400 and that's just gonna kill ya in terms of money shelled out. In one year for the IS, you'd cover 4 years or so of maintenance for the Yaris.

For non-business usage buying a new car is typically better then leasing one even with taking the hit in depreciation. At the end of the lease you own nothing. If you owned the car and it was well cared for you could look forward to many more years of now payment free ownership. Dealers lease cars for a reason, to make money.

the lexus will cost you over 40gs when its all said and done.....you are looking at about 500-600 per month to lease depending on what you put down....your range is so wide...from 300 to over 500 a month....figure out exactly how much you can afford and that will help narrow your choices....factor in insurance costs also...

I used to sell cars. Trust me when i say leases are VERY bad deals. Between the fees if you go over the allotted mileage to the actual "sale" price of the car...it is a ripoff 99.9% of the time.

That being said done right it can be a good deal (kinda, it's like renting an apartment, you pay your bill every month but have nothing to show for it in the end). The buyout prices are ALWAYS a ripoff.

Don't lease unless you can buy it out. You paid interest on the buyout already in a lease. So unless you got a good deal with very low interest (I got 1% lease on my RA), don't lease.
Also look at how much you spend on a used car monthly and how much you pay in lease. Buy newer used car, not old beat up one. Also you don't need full insurance coverage on old car but you'll need that with a new one. I'm paying around $450 a month for my RA.

I got a lease offer from VW for $285/mth with 1.8% interest

which I don't deem bad, and thats warranty included and everything, where as the Toyota guy pushed me into a Matrix, which I don't want (sorry I don't like them)
and that was going to run me a fair bit, AND warranty was EXTRA, with VW its included.

Anyways, thanks for your assistance guys, mods can close this.

Who knows in a year or so I may tire of it and do a lease transfer.

Well, since this guy options are so wide....and got the money for whatever car on his list...

I´ll say buy a tacoma double cab 4X4 V6. U will have a great time with more power space and utility than the lexus.
Why buy a golf, an access cab tacoma that offer u less when u can buy the best choice???

If u have so many options is cause u got the money to buy or lease and to maintain the cars....so go for the double cab tacoma!!!

Maybe u can do a poll on which color suit better the tacoma ! :D
