What are the advantages to componet speakers and how big of a difference do they make?? Also if i am looking at getting an 8 inch sub just to add a little bass how do i know what size amp i need? Thanks

I'd start off by going to a reputable car stereo shop and ask questions as well as actually see and hear the speakers first hand. I am sure they will also be able to offer up good suggestions for amps as well.

Good luck
If you ever look at a set of components, you'll see that the mid-range is separated from the tweeter (hence they're also sometimes called "separates"). This setup, will put out the highs where they're supposed to be, and the lows where they're supposed to be. The mids, at the bottom of the door of course, and the tweeter at the door/a-pillar. This also eliminates distortion usually when you have a 2/3/4-way speaker. A set of components are usually twice as much as a regular set of speakers. As for an amp and sub, just look at the wattage rating. If you get an 8" sub with 150 watts rms, and you would like sub's full potential, get an amp with 150 watts rms. Same with the components.
