Not sure if anyone else has seen this...I live in Ohio and weather here is cold. I've noticed then when I select "Auto" for the climate system, even when it's near freezing, sometimes the A/C turns on, or at least the light does. Not sure if the compressor is running or not, but I turn it off just in case. Anyone seen this? Or any quick explanation why? Would think the A/C shouldn't turn on when the interior and exterior temp is near 30 degrees.

I have noticed the same thing, I am in NJ and when it is cold in the 20's and 30's when I start the HL and press the auto button sometimes the A/C button lights up and I have the temp inside the car setup 70 degrees. I hope someone knows why this happens. I also press the A/C button to turn it off.

Hi! Guys. I live in a place where it could get to minus 40 degree C in winter (-40 deg F) and the problem you experience is normal and is in every modern cars. The AC is getting ON to remove moisture in the air inside the car to avoid condensation on the windows; especially windshield.

As heat is getting inside the car, the snow and ice on the floor will evaporate and you could have problems with having moisture nuild up on all the windows (of course inside the car). The AC traps the moisture and release it outside the car just like in the summer.

Hope it could help!

It's normal in this car, although I can't say that I like it. What I've also noticed is that sometimes when I press the Auto button, the A/C won't light up (maybe because it's below 32 degrees outside), and then later on during my commute, when it warms up a bit outside, the A/C button turns on by itself.

Peterfreedom's right; think of modern AC as "AC plus dehumidifier" and it's easier to understand why it engages at colder temps sometimes.

BTW, just because the AC light is on the compressor might not be on.
