auto downshifting while braking

Sorry, you lose. Read your Owners Manual.

There is nothing in the owners manual about this for the I4 engine (the V6 can be switched into a "manual" mode). I looked at the shop manual and it looks like you could disconnect the brake signal to the trans computer. This may stop it from downshifting when applying the brakes, but it also looks like it would keep the torque converter from unlocking when comming to a stop. Looks like the the only fix would be a firmware update which isn't going to happen.

First you posted this with a Gen 7 symbol which is wrong.

LOL. actually i think about 100% of his posts say read the manual or search. its just 80% he says it like an asshole hahaha and 20% he seems normal.

Well, on his behalf...90% of the posted questions here CAN be solved with either the Owner's Manual or the Search Function provided by TN.

Maybe people are just getting a little fed up?

well i kno we can search/ check the manual but is it really worth the time to go through every post and say to do it? i mean if you know the answer then might as well just state it.... but yeah on his behalf i do believe that 90% can be fixed from a simple search. just think he can say it in a little welcoming way seeing how most people who ask those questions are new to the forum. all in all i say he's an asshole done!

Next time that happens put the stick in 4th than back to 5th.
Should up shift again.

or if you know your gonna hit a downhill you can leave your gear in 5 or 4 so it doesnt upshift and downshif but rather stay on the low gear even before you hit the hill. HOW YOU LIKE THEM APPLES! hahahahaha

Sorry about using wrong gen #. I didn't think it would cause such a reaction.
Tried the 4th to 5th and that puts me back into od, but is still not a great solution as it doesn't prevent the shift in the first place.

Oh well, sorry for asking a "dumb" question.

Wasnt a dumb question, you just have some asshole answering...thats the problem. I had the same issue with an 06 Murano the Camry replaced. The damn CVT would downshift whenever going down hill. This is fine if your going down steep grades and hauling a trailer but pretty much useless for a passenger car. All I did was switch the shifter to 6 manual and it would shift back to 6th. In your case I think your stuck with a downshifting car. Being a noob Im not surprised you used the Gen 7 symbol...BFD get over it people. Atleast now you know your car's a Gen 6 and your not expected to use it again. Welcome to TN by the way.

Btw, the dealer does not tell you when you buy the camry that it is a "Gen 6" and I do not expect people to study all manuals and forums before they ask a question of interest ..and some of the answers in these forums are simply not in the context of a friendly forum for people who like their cars and want to be in touch with peers. Just disregard the "funny" comments and look for the really helpful answers!
