Hi ya'll.
I have a 2004 Yaris Verso or Vitz with a 1.3 liter 2NZ-FE and 4 speed auto.

The car has a transmission fluid dipstick. I'm used to cars with an overflow tube where the trans fluid level check should be performed when the fluid is at a specific temperature, typicaly 36-46 deg. C. / 98-115 F

With the dipstick however, the level is usually over the "hot" marks when the fluid is hot and below the "cold" marks when the fluid is cold.
What fluid temperature should a "hot" check be performed at?
What fluid temperature is "cold", 20 deg C which is normal room temperature? / 68 deg F

I've never connected a diagnostic tool to this car and have no idea what fluid temperatures the hot and cold checks were performed at previously.

Check at operating temperature while car is running. I know that the car does not have a temp gauge, but one day after driving longer than 10min leave the car running and pull the dipstick. Should be at the hot indent. If more... stick a tube down and syphon out otherwise add and check awhile later to let fluid drip all the way down.

Thanks for the input, after 10 mins of running I suspect the trans fluid temp would be max. 150 deg F based on temperatures from similar cars.

Perhaps the "hot" marks on the dipstick are calibrated to when the trans fluid temperature is equal to the engine coolant temperature, about 195 deg F.

After about 10 min driving the fluid level is between the hot marks, however the fluid is not really "hot" just luke warm. After a long trip the level reads over full.

Perhaps the official workshop manual does actually refer to a reference temperature for performing the level check?
