automatic to manual conversion

Alright, let's be honest, no one likes to drive an automatic...at least that's my opinion. I love my car, but I want it to be manual? Has anyone on here converted their 4 spd automatic into a 5 spd manual(I4, not V6?) taken from another camry? If so, was it complicated to do yourself, and how much did it cost you...I have a 2002 LE...Thanks

I've searched on here, there are swaps I know, but I have a later model camry and I was wondering if I can take a manual out of an older camry, and which years came with the I4 with a manual...Is there like a list of options and stuff to see what years came with manuals on the I4?
It would be easier to sell your camry and find another gen5 with a 5spd m/t. Anyway I think that posting in the General Camry Discussion forum wont get you anywhere. Try posting in the gen5 forum. :D
I agree, with the cost involved to fully swap everything over, it would be much easier to just buy a new Gen 5 or Gen 6 with the 5 spd manual. Unless theres something really special about your car that you would hate to let it go.
they all came with manuals it's just hard to find... i agree getting parts for a 2000 to do a swap would be hard.. since you'd need the pedals and shift linkages... the rest is easy to find.
do you know if the trannys from older camrys are the same as the newer ones (mid 90's to 2002)? Cause I know there's some at a junkyard near me for like 50.00...if I can get it out of it, or buy the car for parts
alright I've been doing some research...apparently
2002 Camry 2AZ -> E351 tranny
but E153 tranny from older camry's and S51 are similar to it, can anyone explain differences of E351 to E153 and S51/S53?
Thanks.

I can't say if the trannys are the same, but the 2AZ engine was only from 2002+, I wouldn't think the 2.2L engine would use the same transmission.
damn, anyone know whether they're interchangeable or not?
you'll need the manual tranny, shifter cable, clutch master cylinder, pedals. Its not too bad. I did the swap on my civic. Except same concept applies.

If you look the speedometer, you'll notice it still reads "P R N D 3 2" lol
