just because they have projectors doesnt mean they have HID projectors. the optics of HID vs. non-HID projectors are different. My 1994 Lexus has projectors, but if you throw a HID kit in there you get LOTS of glare out of the headlights because they are not designed for that kind of lighting.

I think the Avalons use reflectors though, not projectors.

that may be the case for your older lexus, but even with the halogen bulbs, there is an obvious sharp cutoff just as you would see with hids in the new model camrys. makes sense too, since it's cost effective to just make the same housing.

It may be cost effective, but it would be counter-productive. the OPTICS are different and thats why the projectors are required to be different. even in the new camry's, I can guarantee that the HID projectors are not the same as the non-HID projectors.

My Lexus's halogen's also have a sharp cutoff, but when you put HID in them, the HID bulbs require different optics to produce that same kind of sharp cutoff without obvious glare. When people put HID into non-HID projectors, it becomes very dangerous to oncoming drivers as the glare is quite blinding.
