This happened at a Kia dealership. I could post this in a Kia forum, but I feel better about the judgement of Toyota owners.

At the Kia dealership, the salesman showed us any vehicle he thought we might be interested in. We did not like anything.

As we were leaving, another salesman in front of the salesman we initially talked to comes up to us and tells us about the Soul. After he told us about it,
we were not interested. We went to other dealerships.

My mother now wants the Soul.

Which salesman do we go to?

If the second salesman did not come up to us, we would not have not known about the Soul.
He deserves something. Then again, the first salesman did spend time with us.

I was thinking about asking them to split the commission. Should I stay out of it?

That's something you shouldn't have to get involved in...that's up to the sales managers. Likely, they'd go half on the deal. Were these guys just the regular sales guys and not an Internet or Fleet manager?

Since you know what you mom wants now, and before you step back into ANY dealer, I would figure out how she wants her Soul (to see the availability) and get some quotes from other dealers around your area so you have some leverage on price (Use the Internet to look up the configurations and then find the area dealers and ask for the quotes). And then you can choose to go back to the first Kia dealer and see if they can do better or what not.

Go to another Kia Dealer, or stalk the dealership until you find out when one of them is NOT working, then buy the car and never show your face again!

 I swear people do that....as if we don't check the logs to see who skated us!!

But seriously, the other 2nd salesperson shouldn't have got involved. Even tho he did a good thing by telling you about the vehicle....he shouldn't have been stepping on the first guys shoes.

Unless the 1st guy was just terrible, go back to him.

I agree. These 2 salesmen were running a game on you. They probably "sized' both of you up as soon as you walked on the lot, figuring you were going to come back.
A game? What advantage is it for one salesman to not tell me about the vehicle, then have a second salesman tell me about it.

Another Kia dealership is far away.

If I were to go when they were both there, what bad could possibly happen?

Easy, money. Both these guys will benefit with a nice commission if you buy the Kia from this dealership.

They will likely split $150 or $200 on a car like that, tops unless they hold money on the trade or make back end profit. The more important part is the "unit" for the monthly bonus. Some dealers allow that to be split, some don't.

Wow such horrible advice being given to you. Except this part:

That's something you shouldn't have to get involved in...that's up to the sales managers

Call the sale manager at the dealership before you go in. Tell him you you want to buy the car but are not sure who to deal with. He will work it out for you before you even set foot in the door. If he's any good, he will say "no problem, you deal with me"

Either way, the sales manager will work it out for you, and work it out with his staff.

It is still money for both. Besides, the real fun is trying to keep the OP coming back to spend more money.

to answer the OP's question....go back to the Salesperson you want to. Buy the car from him. The two salespeople will figure it out behind the scenes. It's not for you to worry about. You just worry about getting what you want.

This makes sense. If the dealer is any good at all you'll be taken care of.

How so? Aren't all dealerships in business to make money?

Dude. What's your obsession with money and profits? That has nothing to do with the OP's situation. Or the thread. It would be like if someone asked me what is a good couch to buy and I keep telling them well they are in the business of making money...well duh, that's not the question. The sky is blue too.

Chill out on the profit stuff, stop being captain obvious.

As others said, its up to you or your mom who you want to go with. If you get pressured by either of those sales people to go with them, don't feel obligated. If you don't feel comfortable then don't do it, go to a different KIA dealer.

Profits and money are what it is all about with dealerships:) It does fit in with the thread, because neither of these guys wanted the OP to leave the dealership without a sale. They weren't going to give up until the OP nee most if not all the Kia models they had available for sale. If you notice many financial institutions also "hook up" with dealerships not only for profit, but to potentially gain new customers as well.

All car dealers doesn't matter how successful the brand, don't get much profit from new car sales. All the salesmen care about is their own commission cheque. Salesmen can get a bonus if they can manage to unload an undesirable car from the dealer even if the dealer loses money on it.

To the OP, go with the salesman who you like best and is willing to give the best deal. New cars are all about haggling, if you have a trade-in, that's just another item to haggle with. Just don't get into the trap of trusting a seemingly nice salesman and overpaying. Their job is to get the most out of you for a bigger commission, its your job as the buyer to pay as little as you can. The threat of walking away means $0 towards their next pay period, they'll trim if they can guarantee a sale.
