I bought a 09 Matrix 5 months ago with some wiggles so I had replaced brake rotors , alignment ,tires engine mounts front and back and I just recently replaced the passenger axle and i noticed a clicking on the front right wheel so i check the brakes and I make sure every bolt and nut was tight so i found out that the clicking noise come from the transaxle or transmition the part were the CV axle connect to the transmition the clicking happen only when i brake but is not the brake pads because I brake down hill in neutral and there is not clicking noise only when I am on gear any thoughts.

Do you notice any tears in the CV boot? To your knowledge, did the previous owner replace the driver side axle?

Does it only click in a straight line while braking? Sounds to me that the bearing inside the transmission has fallen apart and axle is loose.

Quickest way is to drain the transmission fluid and drop the transmission pan if it's an automatic.

Does the transmission operate well? No funny noises or delay in engagement?
