I got the 2000 camry back together today, 4CYL, engine. I did a complete rebuild, crank, pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump, water pump. timing belt, and reworked head. At initial startup the engine runs smooth at idle, but starts knocking with acceleration, like a spark knock, could I be one cog off on the timing belt? Any input is greatly appreciated!

Wait, is it knocking or misfiring?

Check your plugs and wires before you tear the T belt off again.
It would have to be off a couple teeth...but then I wouldn't expect it idle right either...
I cant seem to find the timing specs. If I put a timing light on it, where should it be BTDC
It should be 0-10 degrees BTDC at idle in neutral.
thanks, I'll check it in the morning
