Following a rear collision I had while backing the car, the battery totally drained. Because the trunk was affected (it wouldn't close fully), it was the prime suspect.

A friend suggested removing the bulb underneath the trunk as it may be ON.

I am going to get a new car battery - before that wanted to check with people here on whether the new battery can be expected to last with the trunk-bulb now being removed ? Would the open trunk in itself cause any battery drain ?

Thanks !
