What does the battery indicator light on the dashboard mean? I thought it usually means the alternator is going bad but I checked with a volt meter and it's pumping out 14.4v and there are no problems with the truck starting. It doesn't struggle starting up.

I'm not sure what else it is.

BTW it's a 2000 V6 SR5 Xtra Cab.

That indicator comes on to warn you that the battery is discharging. Strictly speaking, it's not an indicator for alternator output voltage. The battery could be going bad, or there may be a wiring fault that's causing a current drain ...

Or your battery cables are loose.

One of the wires from the harness that's on the alternator broke in the harness so we repaired it and it's fixed now.
